“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” ― Albert Einstein

This is Aycan Gulez, your host (LinkedIn | GitHub | YouTube | Mastodon).

As VP of Engineering at FreshDirect, I lead the technical strategy and execution for our agentic AI initiatives. I focus on architecting autonomous systems capable of multi-step reasoning, tool-use, and independent goal execution. My mission is to empower our engineering teams to build software that doesn’t just assist users but acts as a proactive, intelligent partner.

Prior to joining FreshDirect, I served as the Izmir Lab Director at Efsora, leading large-scale AI R&D projects for innovative enterprises and scaleups. I also served as CTO at Faradai, where I led the development of carbon accounting and energy management platforms used by large enterprises to monitor and reduce their environmental impact.

Why the name “Lack of Imagination” you might ask. I’ve noticed that the more I think I know about a subject, the more confident I get, and the less likely I become to entertain alternative views. This, in my opinion, leads to a dangerous state of mind: a lack of imagination. So, I chose to name this site “Lack of Imagination” to remember that the world is big and there are so many things I don’t know, no matter how much I think I know.

“Thinking you knew something was a sure way to blind yourself. It was not growing up that slowly applied brakes to learning but an accumulation of ’things I know.’ " ― Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune

I’m writing this blog to share my views about subjects on which I consider myself at least somewhat qualified to comment. Hopefully, some of the entries on this site will attract the attention of people who can contribute their own viewpoints.
